Earrings come in many different attachment types such as clip-on, standard hook, and also stud. Clip-on’s are preferred by people who would rather not pierce their ears, or maybe find that the weight of the gemstone, or metal in the earrings are too heavy to be worn comfortably. Mother of pearl is the iridescent substance that forms the lining of the shells of some fresh-water and some salt-water molluscs. Like the pearl it is a secretion made by the animal's mantle and made up of alternate layers of calcium carbonate and conchiolin. It is light reacting with this layering which gives mother of pearl its sheen.
